Classic Christmas Decor 2024
Can you believe it’s only 1 week until Christmas? This year I decorated on November 30th, because advent started on December 1, and I wanted my space to look festive when we started our Christmas countdown candle. It’s been fun lighting that candle every day, but the candle is already getting so short; only 8 more days to go!
This year I was excited to decorate because I now have a place to display my collections and decor in my office. I love this shelf so much and it was fun deciding how to decorate it this season. I have more pieces than I display each year, but I like that I can switch how I decorate every year.
So, starting off with the aforementioned shelf, here is what it looks like right now. I did all green and brown books on the shelves, a few touches of my blue and white dishes and then mostly went with silver, white and brown tones.
I figured out what to put on the top of the dresser- books and crafting supplies… and a Charlie Brown Christmas tree!
I got this cast iron mini stand a few years ago, but I never had a branch to put in it. This year some branches got broken off our pine tree, so I gathered one and put it here and it looks so cute.
I added in a few hints of red through berries….
…and with a tassel tied on the top of the teapot to balance it out.
I also love this dark green velvet ribbon I got from Michael’s craft store. It’s such a beautiful colour and adds the perfect touch to this glass cloche.
I got this very ugly ceramic house last year from the thrift store and painted it white for an instant upgrade.
Turning to the other side of the room, I placed a wreath of red berries to the top of my pendant light.
I finished off the office with a garland of pinecones and fairy lights over the window and a candle in the window.
In my bedroom, I hung this small silver wreath over the mirror and placed my ceramic tree on the shelf in the same spot I had it last year. I still haven’t made or found a base for it, but eventually I’d like to properly wire it.
In my gallery wall I placed mini trees on the tops of several of the picture frames.
On my dresser, I have a bouquet of juniper branches, berries and vintage glass ornaments. I didn’t put any water in this bouquet (in the past I tried that and stripped the paint off this mercury glass vase!) but just used a bit of sand to hold the branches in place. So far the juniper branches are holding up well. The nice thing about juniper is that they don’t drop needles and just slowly fade to a lighter green colour. After a month they certainly get crunchy, but they still look nice.
And finally, I hung my favourite Christmas cards across my window with some fairy lights. (The deer and house cards are by Jenni Haikonen and I got them last year just to use for Christmas decor.) To cover the battery pack for the lights, I made a little white box out of cardstock and put some more mini trees on top.
And that is how I decorated for Christmas this year. I like to add in festive touches, but not necessarily to remove all of my “regular” pieces. In the office I went for a more vintage, traditional look, and in my bedroom for more of a whimsical and retro feeling, so it’s kind of fun having a couple of separate spaces to decorate.
