Hello, My Name Is Nicole. . .

In case you forgot what I look like, you can look at this one, or every other picture on this blog.
Devinne from Mox and Socks tagged me in a “Get to Know Me, 4 Things” blogger tag started by Ruffles and Grace!
I know I have some new readers lately, so this is perfect timing to say “Hi” to y’all and let you get to know me a little bit better 🙂 None of these are deep questions, but more like little known facts. I was always one of those people 10 years ago who would send out those “get to know your friends better” spammy emails to all of my friends and drive them crazy, so it’s kind of fun to do it again! Read on to find out some random facts about me.
Four places I have lived
- I have spent the entirety of my life in Alberta, Canada hopping between: the suburbs of Calgary, acreages outside of Calgary, the city of Grande Prairie (8 years with my family, and 1 year with two roommates in a townhouse), and now east of Edmonton, on another acreage. We just like acreages.
Four places I have visited
- Camping across the Yukon Territory (almost every summer growing up), Vancouver Island, in a lovely house on the beach, Last summer in England, in a cottage in the village of Stow-on-the-Wold. (You can see some of that trip here.) And well, as far as traveling goes, that is pretty much it. I tend to stay pretty close to home 🙂

Four TV shows I watch
- I don’t have TV, so any shows I watch are once they come out on DVD. I love a lot of old shows, and British shows. So, the four that I can think of off the top of my head would be: Foyle’s War, Columbo, Get Smart and Call the Midwife. What a strange mix of murder, drama and comedy! 🙂
Four of my favourite foods
- How can I choose? Four that I can think of off the top of my head are Curry, Pasta and Meatsauce (as long as it has lots of vegetables in it), Spicy Sriracha Shrimp and Noodle Soup, and Black Forest Cheesecake (which I have almost every year on my birthday!)

Four things I like to drink
- Tea (too many times a day), Water- in order to counteract the intake of tea 🙂 Eis Shokolade (which is a German drink of chilled hot chocolate poured over gelato), and Stewart’s Lime Soda, which tastes like a lime creamsicle.

The perfect combination: tea, a sweet and a good book
Four pet peeves
- People chewing loudly, people chewing with their mouths open, double standards, people not cleaning up after themselves or just messes in general. I am a neat freak!
Four wacky or odd things about me:
- Well, I consider nothing about myself to be wacky or odd. . . haha. . . just kidding. Maybe that, despite the fact that I seem like such a girly girl (and I am really), I know almost everything there is to know about installing tile and have done several installations myself too. I worked in a tile store and learned about the whole industry. Which was also pretty funny, as I wore vintage style skirts and dresses to work, which just confused people as it was kind of warehouse environment (like Home Depot). But I wear skirts and dresses most days- which lots of people consider odd, and I just consider comfortable. So that’s two odd things. Two more would be: Despite the fact that I am an adult (am I?) my last Christmas gift was a Barbie. But it was the vintage reproduction one, so that kind of makes sense? And, maybe the fact that I like old things better than new things. Almost always. But even though lots of people consider that odd, I don’t, and I am sure many of my fellow vintage lovers would agree 🙂 . . .

So. There you have it!

I love that you love Get Smart! I too hate the sound of people chewing. And you are never too old for Barbies!

Get Smart is one of the best old shows- I never get tired of watching it! I’m glad you like it too 🙂
And, I was just informed by my mother, when she read this post, that hating the sound of people chewing is apparently an actual mental disorder. Who knew? I guess we both have it then 😉

That dress is adorable, and I loved watching Get Smart when I was little! I really wanted a shoe phone 🙂
August 8, 2016 @ 9:00 pm
Don’t we all!!! You would think that with the technological advances they have come up with they could at least have invented a real shoe phone by now! I’ll take a 50’s style black leather pump please 🙂

Hi, Nicole!
4 places I have lived: born and lived several months in central California, moved to central Washington State with my folks and have lived here ever since.
4 places I’ve visited: Oregon Coast, Disneyland, New York City, Vancouver and Victoria on one trip, and I can’t leave out Buenos Aires.
4 tv shows I watch: The Andy Griffith Show, Gilligan’s Island, Knit and Crochet Now, and Fit 2 Stitch.
4 of my favorite foods: hamburgers, enchiladas, lasagna and pizza – all from any place. 🙂
4 drinks: flavored Red Bull, strawberry lemonade, hot chocolate, and any flavor of soda as long as it’s not diet. LOL
4 pet peeves: the sound of snapping chewing gum, cellphone texting and talking while driving, conversing with someone and they keep looking at someone else, supervisors/the public loudly chewing out an employee.
4 wacky or odd things about me: born a lefty and can do a lot with right hand also (can write with both), I’d rather wash. dishes than play cards (I offer to do this when someone brings out a deck of cards), my way of. dress can be quirky, and I am often mistaken for someone else.
Well, that was fun. 😉

Hi Annabelle, so glad you responded with your answers- it’s so fun getting to know quirky things about people 🙂
I am totally with you on the diet soda :(, and texting while driving is just plain dangerous! That is so cool that you can use both your left and right hand- that must make some things easier to do! Thanks for sharing 🙂

I love that you know how to tile! That’s such an awesome and random life skill to have. I’m totally with you on the chewing thing – my absolute #1 most hated thing about other people. And I generally don’t really like people at all so it has to be bad to be top!!
August 9, 2016 @ 10:10 am
I am so glad that I am not the only person who hates chewing!!! Thanks for reading 🙂

Waves a big, cheerful hello right back at you! 🙂 First and foremost, thank you very much for the thoughtful tag, darling gal. I really appreciate it!
Next up – how much do I love that you’ve lived in Alberta for your whole life, with much of that time spent in Calgary, a city that I adore with a boundless passion. That’s really cool! It’s so cheerful and sweet to think about another vintage gal being just one province over.
My jaw all but touched the ground when I read that you’d gone camping in the Yukon. That’s incredibly cool! I have strong family ties (stretching straight back to the Klondike gold rush) there and visiting the Yukon is at the top of my bucket list.
Barbie forever! I don’t collect them myself (perhaps one day), but gosh, do I still adore Barbie something fierce. I played with her until I was probably about 12 (my little sis is six years my junior, so I just kept playing with them as she got older) and have so many wonderful memories of doing so. I think it’s awesome that many adults collect and enjoy Barbies, too. It’s easy to bash Barbie these days, but I think that she’s a powerful cultural icon and a really wonderful toy that has touched millions of lives over more than five decades now.
And lastly, soooo with you on the loud chewing.
Thanks again, sweets – you’re such a dear!!!
xoxo ♥ Jessica

That is so funny how similar we are! 🙂
That story of you and your sister and the Barbie’s is exactly mine- only my sister is 5 years younger than me instead of 6.
And I would definitely recommend going to the Yukon- hopefully that is a trip you’ll be able to make soon. I haven’t been up for 3 years, and I do miss it (and the family that lives there too!). If you like nature, and have ties to the gold rush, then you would absolutely love it. I would actually recommend going in September, even though the weather is much colder, as the leaves are simply stunning and you miss the mosquitoes and black flies! (Although that also means that you miss the summer solstice.) But really, any time spent up north is great- it’s just such a different culture than the south.

So fun to get to know you Nicole! I am definitely a new follower! I love how this bloggers tag got around and now I get to meet new people! So fun! I absolutely love your style and I about swooned when I saw the yellow floral dress you are wearing at the beginning of this post! LOL! I love it!
I wear skirts and dresses almost all the time too. For sure daily. Even though others might have thought it odd for you to wear dresses and skirts at the “warehouse” I am sure you were a bright spot of sunshine in an atmosphere like that! I had a similar situation last year when I worked at a carpet cleaning and repair place where the office was basically in the glorified pole barn of a warehouse.
Ha! I am a totally neat freak here too! And chewing loud drives me nuts as well. We have a lot in common!
Blessings,
Victoria

Thank-you so much for passing on this blogger tag- it’s so fun meeting new bloggers- and it is hilarious how similar many of us appear to be! It does seem that we have much in common- and I am so glad to discover your blog too. Thanks for stopping in and reading 🙂

I am seriously impressed by your tiling. What a great thing to be able to do! I love that you wore your normal outfits to work in that environment. I love watching Call the Midwife, such marvellous outfits in every episode. What is an acreages?
August 20, 2016 @ 9:39 pm
Thanks so much! I love the outfits in Call the Midwife too. Every episode, I was like “can I have all of this please?”
Hmmm, I don’t know if the term “acreage” is Canadian or something, but it basically is a plot of land which is more than an acre, but typically smaller than a farm. So, we live in the country, on several acres, but we don’t have crops, and cattle, and horses etc. Although, we do have a garden and could have some animals such as chickens etc.

So nice to get to know more about you Nicole. I have never heard of Eis Shokolade and think I should totally try it out. Also I love the title work you did in that bathroom, it’s gorgeous!
August 23, 2016 @ 8:49 pm
Glad you enjoyed the post 🙂 Yes, definitely try an Eis Schokolade- you will love it!. It is easy to make as it is just hot chocolate, chilled (or you could use chocolate milk) poured over a scoop of gelato/ice cream, and then topped with whipped cream. Yum!
