Photography Lately: Autumn Comes
It seems like just yesterday the leaves were budding, and the flowers were poking their tiny heads up through the ground. Even just two weeks ago the trees were all still a vibrant green, and the sun was shining in full force (like in my last post). But, in the past week the weather has gotten cooler- there is that telltale chill, the sun sets earlier, and of course the leaves are changing colours quickly. They are no less vibrant than the greens of summer, but are made of a different artist’s palette. Fall, or autumn, (I’m never sure which word I like better!) is special to me. For one, my birthday is in October, so that always makes me anticipate the season. But I also just love the cooler days. I love tossing scarves on top of my outfits. I love the darker and warmer tones in my wardrobe that come out to play: cinnamon, cognac, rust, sage, black, mustard. And, I love not melting in the heat! You can always add a few layers if you are cold, but there comes a point when you can not take off any more layers 😉 I only wish that the season lasted a bit longer. One day you notice the leaves hinting a yellow undertone, and the next they have all dropped to the ground, leaving bare branches reaching for the distant autumnal sky. (Have you ever noticed that an autumn sky is different than a summer sky, or a winter, or a spring sky?)
Anyways. I guess I am rambling now, but really, this season passes by so quickly: you can pardon me for wanting to hold onto it a little bit longer! These photos have all been taken in the last few weeks, and just capture a few moments, unique to the season.
Do you like fall time? Do you call the season “Fall” or “Autumn”? Is it starting to look like autumn where you live?
We have a plum tree, with the sweetest little plums!
And mums at the grocery store: what a delicious shade of pink, with an undertone of orange!
Some kind of weed seed. Oh well, it’s pretty.
Wash day.
The perfectly situated photogenic bees.
Harvest time in Alberta.
Not your average egg. Above average I’d say. World’s largest Pysanka.
Obligatory, hipster, foot selfie (foolfie?) in autumn leaves. It just has to be done.
This road.
Sunshine streams.
First time I’ve ever seen an acorn in real life. We have two oak trees and they are dropping so many of these!
More harvest time in Alberta, this time on a smaller scale.
Autumn comes.

I love autumn! I like each season as it comes, so am now revelling in the nights drawing in. I like the feel of this time of year, it just feels different.
The leaves have been dropping for a while here, but then we’ve had a funny old summer in Blighty! Last night the humidity broke with a thunderstorm which went on all night long, so today is damp, cool and entirely different from yesterday x

Funny how the weather can change so much from day to day, and I agree, there is just a different feeling to each season. It’s not something that can really be described- you have to experience it!

The between seasons are my favourites, when it is not too cold, just crisp but the sun is still about. Spring and Autumn are really very lovely indeed. Both with gorgeous colour palates too. It seems as if summer ended very abruptly this yer, Autumn just popped up out of nowhere!

I feel the same- where did summer go?! I love the between seasons too 🙂

Autumn here lasts longer and I remember going for car rides in the county as a kid, solely just to look at all the colourful fall leaves. God’s creation is so beautiful, it’s good to remember to stop and speak in the beauty. Thanks for this post! Once again I have enjoyed your artful and flowing language.

My sister and I did exactly the same today- went for a ride in search of fall leaves, and came across the most wonderful ravine just full of golden coloured trees. We got out of the car to take a closer look and just soak in the beauty of Creation!
Thank-you for your wonderful and thoughtful comment, and I am glad you enjoyed this post too 🙂

Beautiful photographs. I love the one of the washing blowing up against the blue sky. I often take photos of my own laundry in similar circumstances, is that weird?! I think it’s so photogenic! I am mourning summer a bit this year, as we didn’t have much of one here in Wales. We had two warm and sunny days this week (well, one and a half really) and that was wonderful, to feel heat again on my skin. So, I am reluctantly heading into Autumn, despite the promise of the trees, the fruit, the acorns and the fashion!! x

That’s too bad you didn’t get much of a summer! It sounds like our summer here too- rain, rain and more rain, and then – surprise summer’s over! There are definitely special things that happen only in Autumn though, so I hope you get to enjoy this season 🙂 Also- definitely not weird to take photos of laundry!!!! I take photos of the strangest things sometimes, but it’s artistic, right?

I am ready for Fall. That’s the term I use and hear more often although I like “autumn” better. And I have seen signs. We have two big trees and I have already started raking. September mornings are fall-like and the afternoons are more like summer. I love Fall and your pictures. I hope you don’t mind that I have used a few of your pics as wallpaper on my phone. 🙂

I love the early fall days where you get that crisp, fresh air in the mornings to remind you of the season to come, but also the warmth of the afternoons that allow you to go out and enjoy the beauty of the season!
I don’t mind that you are using my pics as wallpaper- I am honoured Annabelle 🙂

I love fall! It’s definitely my favorite season – it’s just so crisp and refreshing after a long, hot summer. It’s still pretty summery here in Chicago, so I’m eagerly awaiting some chillier days.
Also, I’m so consistently impressed with your photography. You are so talented! The one photo of the scarves drying on the line are so lovely. You’re really inspiring me to pull my camera out more often.

Thanks so much Jessica. The one with the scarves is one of my favourites too- and it was just so spur of the moment. I find photography so relaxing, so I hope you are able to get some more picture taking into your life too 🙂
Also, glad to hear there are more fall lovers out there! I’ve heard that it’s still pretty summery down south (as in south of me) so I hope you have a lovely fall time too, whenever it arrives.

Soulfully beautiful images of my favourite season. This time of the year is pure magic! The interplay of light and dark, warmth and chill, bright and muted. It is refreshing and comforting and always puts me in the best of moods. Thank you for sharing some of the elegant sights of the season in your area with us. I really enjoyed seeing them.
Joyful autumn wishes,
♥ Jessica

I love Autumn, it is my favourite season. I love all the colours and the bright days with a nip in the air. I like to be able to get my knitwear out again and get all cosy. I’m going to enjoy October!

All the knitwear! I’m really looking forward to October too. Glad to know there are a bunch of us autumn lovers out there. 🙂
