A Spring in My Step
This may not look like it to some of you who are living in significantly balmier climes, but Spring is in the air! The pussy willows are out and the tulips and crocuses, and even our peonies are starting to poke their brave little heads up out of the dirt. The day we took these photos didn’t really feel like spring; in truth it did feel more like a crisp fall day, because it was overcast and rather chilly, and everything is still brown, but nevertheless I know that it is indeed spring. And that knowledge is indeed cheerful, after the many months of winter! I love my winter clothes, but I am more than ready to ditch the tights and the wool and the scarves and the many layers.
I think we might be wearing some of the warmer pieces and layers for a while yet, but I have been attempting to lighten up my colour palette a bit the past couple of weeks. This outfit I wore last week looks a bit more fall inspired than spring inspired to me, now that I look at, though. Maybe it is because of the mustard yellow, which is a bit more of an earthy colour. Oh well! I felt a lot more seasonally appropriate than I have felt for a long while. Changing seasons can be a rather awkward time for ones wardrobe. . .
This week I am planning to rotate my wardrobe to more seasonally appropriate attire. Mainly that means just putting my thick wool skirts away, and moving my winter coats to the extra closet and switching out my winter hats for my straw hats. It is so nice to switch things up and revive for the season. Because even if it doesn’t quite look and feel like it, Spring is definitely here!
Do you switch out your wardrobe seasonally? How do you transition for the seasons in your dress?

As someone in a similarly chilly climate, I can definitely detect Spring in these photos! I really like this outfit. I think it would work for Autumn well too, as you say, but yellow is quite a Spring colour too I think.
I’ve been switching around my wardrobe too. Packing away the heavier coats (after a good steam clean), and retrieving all the gingham and pink I can lay my hands on. Only trouble is, with wardrobe rotation, is that after you think you’re done, you suddenly remember a garment you haven’t found yet, and then comes the dawning realisation that there must be a whole other suitcase somewhere…!! Nope, still haven’t found it…
xx

There is something in the light and in the air, isn’t there, that just makes it feel like Spring!
Yes to all the pink and gingham! I hope you find your long lost garment 😉

Yes! I’m not as far north as you are, of course, but I’ve been so thrilled that it’s finally gotten a bit warmer. I’m planning on pulling out my spring/summer gear out as well soon, and it’s always kind of exciting to revisit pieces that I haven’t seen for the past 4 months or so.
I think you’ve hit on a great early spring look – I love the delicate floral of the blouse, but the brown skirt and sturdy boots provide a little bit more warmth. I also really like the hair. It’s tough to grow out a pixie cut, but it’s also fun to play around with those short lived transitional styles.

The warmer weather is so encouraging isn’t it? Today I was outside in short sleeves and I was so thrilled about that! And I agree- it is so nice to see the pieces you haven’t seen for a while- it’s kind of like a “shop your closet” 🙂
(ps. regarding my hair- thanks! It’s a real bob now, which is very exciting!)

Your spring looks a lot like the ones I know! I find some of my outfits are leaning autumnal too, but it’s what happens when your wardrobe serves two transitional seasons a year with similar weather! Anyway, I think the pretty blouse helps inject some Spring here whatever happens 🙂

Thanks Cici Marie! And that is so true! I feel like sometimes all I do is transition from one season to the next 😉

I love the colours in this outfit – they would work for spring fall/autumn. The tones of the mustard and blue make them work especially well together. I don’t have a routine with the changing seasons – it’s more a gradual shift. Summer is actually my least favourite season clothes-wise, but I do like the sense of transition both ways. Kx

Thanks Karen- the blouse works well with these colours and is one of my new favourite finds. 🙂
And yes, it is always so nice to transition into a new season- somehow it always seems so fresh.

I love this outfit! These times of transition are hard, because the weather tends to fluctuate between spring and winter. I have to switch out pieces of my wardrobe because it all won’t fit in my closet at once . . . The wool definitely takes up more space than the light skirts! I need to do this soon, but finding the time is another thing.

Thanks Elizabeth.
I think the transitions are a bit hard too- because you almost need to grab pieces from your winter wardrobe and your spring wardrobe at the same time- you never know how warm/cold it will be on any given day. And yet, like you said, if they won’t all fit in your wardrobe then you are hooped! 😉 I hope you can find the time soon to do a good ol’ closet switch!

I love your outfit, especially the pinafore skirt. The cardigan and blouse could go into Spring. Years ago, I would change from one season to the next on a weekend. Now, I do it gradually. And break a few rules, like I will wear white after Labor Day (first Monday in September). Here, April is windy and rainy so I’d still wear the pinafore skirt. 😉

Thank-you Annabelle! I do love my pinafore skirt year round. It’s made of twill, so quite serviceable, but not hot like wool or something.
I definitely do break the fashion “rules” too! What business do rules have with being in fashion anyways 😉
