This & That | July 13

Hello Dear Reader,
Lately I’ve been…

Reading:
So many new books! Over the past month or so, I have amassed quite a haul of second hand books from library sales, thrift stores, swaps, and little free libraries. Some of these pictured I have read and was happy to find copies (such as “Educated“, “Dear Mrs. Bird” and “Les Miserables“), and some are new-to-me titles and authors. I love mystery stories, but have finished all of Agatha Christie’s repertoire, so I’m going to try P.D. James and Mary Higgins Clark. And if any of these books don’t end up being new favourites, I will take them to a Little Free Library.

Loving:
Sometimes when you get a new Victoria magazine, you have to pull out a lace placemat and china teacup and drink Lavender Earl Grey while you read it.
Working on:
I have been spending a lot of time in my mom’s garden. She was gone for a couple of weeks, so I got up most mornings early and went out to weed, water and cut flowers. I have never much cared for gardening, but it was very satisfying work. As I can’t deal with heat, getting up early and going out for an hour or two before the heat of the day was nice. It’s a peaceful way to start the day.

Finding:
New (to me) blogs to read! Lauren of Wearing History just compiled a list of bloggers who are still blogging, which I was very happy to see, since so many of the blogs I used to follow have stopped updating, or closed their platforms completely. I miss the “good old days” so I am glad to see there are still some of us out there!

Also, I recently looked through one of my old art journals. While I tossed a bunch of it, it was fun to look through and see what I was making back in 2010. I used to have a very doodle-y style which I’d kind of like to pick back up. I recently signed up for an art challenge called “The Inchie Challenge” by Mindful Art Studio (and then at the same time decided to repaint my office, so I didn’t have access to my art desk) but even though it’s a few months later, I’d still like to start it.
Watching:
I wasn’t able to watch Sound of Freedom last year when it was released, but watched it online this week. It’s a true story about a guy who saves kids from trafficking, which was obviously a very sad subject matter, but it was a very well done film and the storytelling was engaging.
Thankful For:
A break in the heat wave we had last week. It’s nice to be able to go out and enjoy the flowers without completely melting in the sun!
And that is all for this week. I don’t have any special plans for this weekend, but I hope you have a great one, whatever you find to do!
