Thrifted and Vintage Finds | #4
I have been trying to slow down on how many secondhand items I am bringing into my home, because I really don’t have a lot of space, but when you come across a good treasure, what can you do? Here are a few of my recent finds…
Above, this lovely vase that my sister was decluttering. It was actually a canister with a cork that smelled like stale food, so I threw it out and turned the canister into a vase. It’s perfect, and exactly what I have been looking for. And the nice thing about opaque vases is that the stems don’t immediately look gross. Well, they might look gross, but you can’t see them!
Books, books, books…I just can’t resist antique books. I found these recently at the library sale for a few dollars, and they have been added into to my display shelf.
Lovely vintage floral linens. I collect odd pillowcases and often will use the fabric for other projects, however, the yellow floral ones are a set of two which match a double flat sheet I thrifted over 10 years ago in a different town across the province! How serendipitous!
The blue floral pattern is a square tablecloth and it’s the perfect size for the patio table.
This one is a secondhand upcycle. These pegs were actually on a shelf which I dismantled, keeping only the back part, and then painted cream. It now hangs behind the door in my office to hold my craft apron and fabric backdrop.
Now to pivot to fashion related items, above is a vintage darning egg I got from our church swap group. This will come in handy when I inevitably get holes in my tights this winter!
It’s been a desert for good scarves at my local thrift store for ages, but recently I found these four scarves in great colours for my wardrobe. I can’t wait for cooler weather so I can actually start to wear them.
This is an amazing find, that cost only 50 cents: a beautiful handmade lace collar! It needs to be blocked before I can wear it because after I washed it, it got a bit out of shape and doesn’t lay nicely. So for now it’s just hanging out on my dresser mirror looking pretty.
And finally, look at this cute hat. It needs some help as the white ribbon was added later and clashes quite badly with the cream trim. I’d like to remove all the trim, as I don’t really wear cream, but we’ll see how it goes. For only $2, it’s worth a try!
